Innovation, Investment and Inclusion Can London deliver economic growth while ensuring fairness for every community? London’s economy is changing. Innovation, investment patterns, and inequality are reshaping the capital. New technologies create opportunities but also disruptions. Investment drives growth, yet its benefits are not always felt equally across communities. Keen to join us? Register your interest now. As policymakers increasingly focus on devolved decision-making and place-based growth, London has a chance to combine economic success with raising living standards. International evidence shows how cities with more local control can grow faster and improve people’s lives. This year, The London Conference will explore how the capital can deliver its next chapter of growth – one that is driven by innovation, powered by investment and shared more equally across communities.…

How do we make sense of the domestic in an ever-changing world? From the perspective of both museum visitors and curators, the book explores how we create and recreate home – past, present and future. This event will include a short talk from Sonia plus an early chance to see our famous Rooms Through Time 1878-2049 dressed for winter, late-night festive shopping in the shop and music from the new Museum of the Home playlist. Warming refreshments will be provided. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the night, or you can reserve your copy when booking your ticket. About Real Rooms There are many opportunities for tourists and cultural explorers to encounter homes that are open to the public. This book questions why we are so fascinated with these real and imagined spaces of domesticity and what it means to recreate home as a museum experience. It examines what desires are met when we walk through the door of a house museum or stumble across a room set in a gallery environment and reveals how these experiences tap into feelings of nostalgia, aspiration, inspiration, curiosity and empathy. The case studies featured in Real Rooms range from famous examples such as the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the Beatles’ Childhood Homes in Liverpool to the House of Annetta Museum in London and the Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn, New York. All of them seek to preserve, recreate and reimagine lived experience for a visiting audience and communicate a message about the meaning of home. A central chapter of the book, on Museum of the Home’s seven ‘Real Rooms’, sets out the history of the Museum and the ideas behind the rooms and includes an extended interview with the curatorial team. Presenting the perspective of both visitors and curators, the book explores how we package and consume home and make sense of the domestic in an ever-changing world. Illustrated by moving, insightful stories, the book highlights issues of migration, imagination and fantasy, feminism, class, ethnicity, community and time – past, present and future.

Learn more about some of the best 21st-century architecture from the people who made it happen. We’ve paired leading architects and academics for themed lectures where they will present their work, before sitting down to discuss their individual approaches to similar projects. Maggie’s, a network of cancer supporting facilities, have emerged as one of the most successful examples of architectural patronage of the 21st century. There are currently 27 Centres in the UK, small but remarkable buildings that offer the perfect combination of human care and architecture. The list of famous architecture practices involved in the design of Maggie’s centres include Zaha Hadid Architects, Gehry Partners, OMA, Foster + Partners and Snøhetta. Richard Murphy designed the very first centre in Edinburgh in 1995. We’ll hear from Maggie’s Property Director Siobhan Wyatt, who is responsible for the building and maintenance of all the centres. Siobhan works directly with architects and designers through the whole commissioning and construction process, and so is uniquely placed for giving us an in-depth overview. For an academic overview we’ll be joined by architect and educator Caterina Frisone, author of The Therapeutic Power of the Maggie’s Centre (2024, Routledge). The event is chaired by Laura Mark – architecture critic, former Architect's Journal editor and current Head of Casework at C20. Siobhan Wyatt is Property Director at Maggie’s and leads the development of new centres through design and construction. She helped to deliver Maggie’s Southampton, designed by Amanda Levete and the most recent centre at the Royal Free, designed by Daniel Libeskind. Prior to joining Maggie’s, Siobhan worked for a leading Construction Consultancy helping deliver a wide range of building projects. Caterina Frisone is an architect, educator and associate researcher at the School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University and at IUAV University of Venice. She’s the author of The Therapeutic Power of the Maggie’s Centre (2024, Routledge). The series coincides with the new C20 book 100 21st Century Buildings (2026, Batsfords). To book an online ticket for this lecture, click here. Buy the whole lecture series and save. The ticket price includes a glass of wine and a contribution to our casework and campaigns. Note: This event is hybrid and is being run both in-person at Cowcross Street Gallery and online via Zoom. The event will be recorded and offered as a catch-up lecture for those who have booked and will be available for two weeks.
