Cultur Vultur lists film events at London cinemas. You can use the listings without an account. If you sign up, we keep a little information about you so we can sign you in and send the alerts you ask for. This page explains what, why and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Cultur Vultur (culturvultur.com) is responsible for your information. For anything to do with your data, email privacy@culturvultur.com.
What we collect
- Your email address, to send sign-in links and the emails you choose.
- Account details: when you signed up and last signed in, and a password only if you choose to set one (stored securely hashed; we can't read it).
- Your name and city, if you give them when you set up your account: the name we greet you by and the city you want alerts for.
- Your choices: the cinemas and venues you follow in each section, the kinds of event you want to hear about, and whether email alerts are on.
- What we've sent you: a record of which events, and which newly added cinemas, we've emailed you about, so you're never told twice.
We don't collect your address, payment details or location, and we never sell or share your information for marketing.
Why we use it
To provide the service you signed up for: signing you in, remembering your cinemas, venues and settings, emailing you a welcome and a confirmation when you change your settings, emailing you new events that match, and telling you when we add a cinema you could follow. That's the lawful basis: it's needed to provide what you asked for. We also use it, where necessary, to keep the site secure and working (our legitimate interests).
Who handles it for us
We use a few trusted services to run the site. They process your information only on our instructions:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in system, where your account and choices are stored.
- Resend: sends our emails, so it handles your email address and the emails themselves.
- Vercel: hosts the website. Its analytics count visits without cookies and without identifying you.
- Google Analytics: only if you accept analytics cookies, it tells us how the site is used (pages visited, rough location, device and browser). We can't see who you are from it.
- TMDB (The Movie Database): the film posters on the listings load from its image server, so, as with any image on the web, it sees your IP address and browser. We send it nothing about you.
- Cinemas' image servers: when a film has no TMDB poster, its listing may show the cinema's own picture, which loads from the server the cinema uses for images. As with TMDB, it sees your IP address and browser, and we send it nothing about you.
- wsrv.nl (an image service): it crops venues' pictures to fit the listing cards, so those pictures load through it. It sees your IP address and browser, and we send it nothing about you.
Some of these services may process data outside the UK, for example in the United States. Where they do, they rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires for international transfers.
Cookies
Sign-in cookies keep you signed in. They're strictly necessary, so we don't ask for consent.
Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_…, kept for up to two years) help us see how the site is used. We only set them if you click “Accept” in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. There are no advertising cookies.
Your browser also remembers your cookie choice, and your last listings view for the current tab so “Back to listings” takes you back there. Neither leaves your device.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your email address, choices and email history. Our email provider keeps its own sending logs for a limited time.
Your rights
You can:
- turn alert emails off, or change your cinemas, at any time in your settings (every alert email links there);
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it, or to delete your account and everything with it;
- object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it.
Email privacy@culturvultur.com and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this notice, we'll update the date at the top.
